THE OTHER ANDREW

Now that the first season of EXP is over, you’re getting post-credits-scene bonus content, sometimes giving you something new, sometimes pulling back the curtain on what’s already there. This week, we’re passing the mic to the guy who masters what goes into it.

Andrew Horning from Lagom Podcast Studio is the audio engineer and video editor behind all of EXP’s gems. But he’s not just the guy who spruces up the sound and visuals. He believes in what he does. Here’s what he has to say about how EXP has become a part of his own vision:

NOISE AND PURPOSE

"We live in a noisy world. Social media, news, shows, and podcasts are all vying for our attention. I own a podcast production company and have always been cognizant of the fact that the productions I help bring to life could just be adding more noise into the world. So since launching Lagom Podcast Studio, it's been one of my goals to help people say things that actually matter, that actually result in listeners living better lives.”

“When Andrew of By the Book Games pitched his idea for a podcast about the theology of play, I knew I wanted to be part of it. Over my life, I've heard so little about this important topic from a Christian perspective and I am so glad I got to partner with Andrew to bring his unique voice to this topic."

WHAT DO YOU EDIT?

Andrew (well, the other one. I know. It’s confusing) is right about the overwhelming number of people saying things, screaming for us to listen, singing siren call sound bites for us to buy in. Even robots are contributing with what is now so commonly called “AI slop.”

Catching a glimpse of Lagom’s story can speak into your own. Are you just adding more noise to the world? Is your entertainment, your play, just consuming it? Or does it cut through the racket with intentionality and meaning? Do you slow down in your mind, your work, your relationships, to edit that thought, that content, to make it purposeful?

You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it would give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29)

If that’s true for the way we speak, it must also be true for what we’re seeking, in the cubicle and on the gaming table.
